An Unexpected Horse

An Unexpected Horse was my first ever attempt at creating a “short film”. It was my first audiovisual project at the Fundación de la Universidad del Cine de Buenos Aires (FUC). We had been assigned to submit a short video demonstrating 6 different types of camera positions and angles. This was a purely technical assignment in its essence, and as such, no creative intervention was necessary as the main goal was to display technical ability. Out of the pure excitement of being tasked with such a project I raced to my notepad to start coming up with ideas on how to provide content for what would be otherwise quite a boring watch. I eventually came up with a short story about a young man whose day was turned upside down by a supernatural human-horse hybrid, who would ultimately be defeated by a tarot card representing “death” thrown by the protagonist. This project was ungraded and as such was purely made out of passion for the craft.

Given that this project was my first assignment during the Covid-19 quarantine (2020) all roles were filled by myself. From scripting, acting, directing, editing and some basic VFX, this was completely a one man effort from its conception to its submission.
